VISTAS is an in-school volunteer program of the Snoqualmie Valley School District. The program is being piloted at Opstad Elementary School and Twin Falls Middle School for the 2009-2010 school year. VISTAS is designed to place screened and trained community volunteers into schools to support academic rigor and student achievement.
Community members from neighborhoods and businesses are a valuable resource for our students. Some students need extra attention to be academically successful while others are looking for greater challenges. Some simply need a mentor to help them get organized.
VISTAS places volunteers in schools as one-on-one mentors, tutors and classroom helpers. Volunteers are positive role models with a wide range of educational and life experiences. They support a student’s academic and enrichment needs, encourage development of social skills and motivate students to become enthusiastic learners.
